Kansai Technology Licensing Organization Co., Ltd. (K-TLO) was established in October 1998 as the first technology transfer organization to cover wide area of Kansai. In December 1998, it was approved as an official technology licensing organization by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) and the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) under the “Law for Promoting University-Industry Technology Transfer.” In addition, K-TLO was designated as a “Super TLO” by METI in June 2004 in recognition of our innovative business model.

One of K-TLO's missions is to enhance and support the R&D activities of university researchers by distributing part of the profit obtained through commercialization of researchers' inventions back to universities and researchers. For this purpose, we have actively worked together with universities and the industry to facilitate the development of a model for an “intellectual creative cycle."

K-TLO has achieved positive results in its technology transfer activities since its establishment. We have also organized a strong licensing system to exclusively promote intellectual properties from cooperating universities. We have received of capital subscription from Kyoto University and Wakayama University and established cooperation with Kyushu University, Kyoto Prefectural University of Medicine and Okayama University.

By gaining the understanding of university researchers and companies, we at K-TLO are striving to further enhance technology transfer and business developments that will result in advancement of industry and university research activities. We wish to gain your support to understand in our activities.

Shinji Ohnishi, President and CEO
